The Heterotopia (2023) project highlights the fragility and instability of the human relationship with the environment, in a context of ecological, social, and political crisis. Coastal neighborhoods of the Mediterranean such as El Cabanyal in Valencia, subjected to capitalist urban transformation logics (gentrification, inflation, coastal destruction), are places of economic, migratory, and environmental tensions.
In this context of permanent mutation, the photographic process seeks to capture the metamorphoses of the body and its identity mechanisms in relation to its environment. In this sense, the construction of different hybrid photographic devices, both analog and digital, constituted a way to embrace this permanent transit. The creation of counter-devices such as the reinterpretation of the darkroom on the scale of a room, a tent, or a box, served to tune in with the urban space and resist its absurd dissolution.
